Join up

We’re a community outlet, so anyone in Hastings is welcome to join, and anyone is welcome to contribute.

For the minute, you can contact us via info@hastings-examiner.uk – which Merlin will be checking regularly, won’t you Merlin?

Meetings

Keep your eyes trained on our Instagram for notice of any upcoming open meetings. We typically meet on a Tuesday evening at the White Rock Hotel, but not always – so it’s best (though not strictly necessary) to check with us first if you want to come along.

Once you’ve said hi, you’re welcome to join our organising group, or just remain a contributor at your convenience.

Newsletter

We are working on a newsletter, which you’ll be able to subscribe to. That’ll come out on Sundays and give notice of what’s been happening at Hex lately, and where the next meeting will be.

Finance

We don’t have any funding at the moment – the print runs are done cheap on the Green Party’s risograph (thank you green comrades) and paid for by our organising group. The website’s also paid for from our pockets. We use a lot of open source software, partly on principle and partly because it’s much more affordable.

Print runs

If you want us to a print run on a particular topic, or work with us to print about something important to your area or your demographic, please get in touch. We might ask you to share some of the print costs and the labour of distributing, but otherwise we’re a free-to-use community service.

Ethics

While we want to be available for anyone in the community to use, even those not of our political preferences, we do have limits. If you want to join up, you should probably check out our mission statement and maybe read a few articles first.

Accessibility

We’re working on a podcast and an audio alternative to all of our written articles. We’ve crowdsourced the resources to do this, so no delay there, but the task itself will take a bit of time. If you have any other accessibility issues, hopefully you or a friend can get in touch to tell us what we need to improve.

Hey there.

Hastings Examiner (Hex for short) is a community news source for Hastings, East Sussex.

We aim to take a deeper look at issues affecting the town, and are more than happy to support community-led initiatives trying to make Hastings a better place.

Have a look around. If you like what you read, check out our mission statement or get in touch via info@hastings-examiner.uk. We’re a voluntary organisation and welcome anyone who wants to get involved.

Everything still under development.

Daily Poem

We’re a largely text-based outfit here, so you’re going to find a few poets lurking.

Beginnings

Out of the primordial gooo
A beginning
Birth red and writhe like maggot
On the untrod surface of its earth
Gasp the first untainted breath
Flush lung from liquid’s grasp
And writhe toward your unknown future
All was written from scratched beginnings
Fragments scraped from disparate corners
No truths true but paradox
All logic mere invention
All walls built with nothing but
Bricks and mortar / sand and water
And all sand slips away in time
Structures crumble
Empires fall
And life begins again
Of a new primordial rubble

This section is meant for local poets. Submit your poems to info@hastings-examiner.uk. They’ll be added to our archive and eventually featured here.
